How to Stay Healthy in Gainesville

Hey all,

I've realized that I haven't done a great job with keeping my promise about trying new workouts and reporting back, so in the meantime, I've made a Google map of places around Gainesville to keep you happy, healthy, and fit. There are places to get exercise (some I've tried and some I haven't), restaurants, and some places I like to get exercise gear. Hopefully you'll give some of them a try. I will be!

Train for a 5k

Hi everyone,

I found this great video on YouTube, and I thought it would be a good way to get some of you out there motivated to try a 5k. If you've never done a 5k before (a race that is 3.1 miles long), you should give it a try. 3.1 miles may sound daunting, but it's very manageable and I'm confident anyone can do it with a little bit of training. Good luck!

Hello, Blogosphere!

My name is Jennifer, and I love everything about health. That's me in the middle of the photo before running a 5k for cancer research with some friends. I enjoy working out, nutrition and cooking, learning about the latest diet and fitness trends (for instance, the current fiber revolution is out of control – and I’m a total sucker for it!). I love working out, but occasionally it can become a chore. I’m always looking for new activities to keep myself engaged and excited about exercise. I like to challenge my body as well. My friends make fun of me because I’m one of those crazy people who thinks boot camp sounds fun, and I would sign up for the Real World/Road Rules Challenges in a minute purely for the physical experience - if it wasn’t a skeezy reality show…or any reality show, for that matter.

So, why should you care? Well, here’s the plan. I’m going to try all sorts of new activities over the next several weeks. As I complete each new exercise adventure, I’ll blog about it. Who knows, maybe you’ll give it a try, too. I welcome comments and feedback, and if anyone knows of something I should take a swing at, just let me know!

I may throw in some other health-related info from time to time, so look out for that as well. In fact, one of my current favorite websites is Real Age. Check it out. I think it’s a great place for anyone who wants to take a step toward a healthier life. Take the quiz to find out your real age and see how you can “live life to your youngest.”

More to come soon. Enjoy!
